i would love to see Anderson Silva move up to 205 lbs as well. i would rather watch great match-ups than title bouts.
Great article Barry, but wouldn't Anderson simply leaving the division, devalue the middleweight title?
Julian,
If Anderson Silva doesn't compete in the Middle Division for over 1 year, he will lose the #1 spot at 185 lbs.
was his rib injuries that serious Dr MMA? I mean by taking him out for the whole of 2011.
Cody, your stage name sucks!
Silva so far is only out until about April of 2011, not the whole year...
As for the division being devalued if Silva leaves, I disagree that it would...I think that the division has stagnated over the last year as Silva has had one disappointing performance after another...Silva leaving would allow the UFC to create new match ups that will allow a new champion to rise out of the pack, be it Maia, Belcher (if he ever fights again), Sonnen, or possibly someone like Thiago Alves or Anthony Johnson or even Jake Shields coming up from welterweight and putting their names in the hat...
maybe there could be a 4 man tournament, not all on the same night of course...
