The Era of The Invincibles - Part 6

By TLOS listener, Julian McLeod - Part 6 of 6. Please enjoy this next installment of Julian's multi-part article.
    What Happened?
Sadly everything must eventually come to an end, At UFC 104 an inconsistent Shogun seemed that he pose little threat to Lyoto’s unique style, however after a very close match and possibly dubious decision the once aura that surrounded Machida began to fade until he was eventually beaten in the rematch. Frankie Edgar shocked the world by keeping up with BJ’s boxing and even taking him down for the first time in a few years, picking up the victory and the title. Anderson Silva is a hard to figure out as you can look at his latest bout in two ways, one was absolute domination followed by fatigue or absolute showmanship followed by arrogance, either way it’s clear that he is still one of the best fighters in the world but had lost the respect of his fans. George Saint-Pierre is just as dominant as ever but he himself has been criticising his lack of distinct finishes but to me that doesn’t reflect on GSP rather on the quality of his competition, a heavily stacked welterweight division. There was also a huge scare for Brock Lesnar as he was nearly retired by a serious illness but showing his tenacity fought his way back and defeated the biggest threat to his title at UFC 116. As always the landscape in the MMA world is constantly changing but I will never forget the time when the UFC champions was set in stone as invincible.
